Story

Cryptopia is filled with open-minded individuals wanting to be the first to innovate and create. While people look upon man-made technology for innovation and the next best thing, the Genominers look only inwards.

Genominers reside in their ship, The Ark, moored to a dock in the town. It allows them to travel at a moment’s notice and operate within international waters. Recently, they’ve been seen more often on the shores of Cryptopia, where they take advantage of the recent rise of advanced technology. With their more forward-thinking clients residing in Cryptopia, they decided to stay close to see if the young nation will support their cause.

While biohacking isn’t relatively new, its approaches and methods are often seen as questionable, unsafe, and unethical. With most governments panicking and quickly trying to intervene by making countless laws, without fully understanding the methods’ purposes and reason, it has forced like-minded individuals to flee and reside elsewhere. They eventually found their oasis in a ship called The Ark, elected their leader, and established their reputation as the Genominers.

Noah Larsen, the leader of this eccentric group of hackers, med techs, and bioengineers, was once a sickly young boy who frequented hospitals and needed constant medical attention. His hospital stays made him fascinated with how early 19th and 20th-century scientists created and enacted upon their theories and research. And while at a young age, he was savvy with computers and coding, he used his skills to further his research into medical biology and human anatomy. His frequent hospital stays have led him into the world of biohacking, in search of answers on how to be a better version of himself.

In their endeavors as Genominers, they’ve launched their various forms of gene therapies, such as injecting genomes, and other processed fluids to make people grow taller, healthier, and stronger which are rumored to go on government-mandated clinical trials. However, they have become notorious for stealing and collecting various organisms’ DNA and biological information so that they can find the ideal set of genomes to experiment on. To them, the ends justify the means. To prevent future generations from suffering the fate of ill-fitting bodies, it is time to make today’s generations' genetics more robust and prepared for the worse.

The Genominers sometimes have alliances with other ships around Cryptopia as they are constantly on the hunt for research and funds to keep their experiments running. In exchange, they are the best resource for fresh organs, potent (but experimental) medicines, and remedies, or a rare breed of exotic pets. With the demand for their services rising, Noah and the Genominers can fund their main project of the creation of the perfect human genome, one free from any illnesses, with a strong and capable physique that will last longer than anyone’s lifetime.

While most people consider biohacking as a freak or fringe science, isn’t it natural for one to want to improve the human race? Genominers are willing to take the risk, explore human capabilities, and think to themselves, “Aren’t we overdue for an upgrade?”
