Citizens victimised by pirates have only one recourse: obtain the services of a bounty hunter and hope that they can find the pirate, win the encounter, and take back the stolen loot. While bounty hunters don’t come cheap, their services are preferable to losing one’s entire cargo.
At the head of this faction is James “Wardog” Markham. As a young man, James possessed a strong belief in order and justice. James eventually joined the police force and a private security group, but even then he didn’t quite feel at home in either. No matter where he went, James found himself unsatisfied with no reason to use his skills. Even when he came to Cryptopia, James found little to attract his interest.
One day, as James was out sailing, he chanced upon a cargo ship being robbed by pirates. When the pirates sped away, he gave chase and rammed the raiders’ boat from the side. His quick thinking and action forced the buccaneers to surrender. James returned the stolen loot to the grateful ship captain, who rewarded him with a portion of the cargo. That was when James arrived at an epiphany.
He quickly formed a faction of his own, with himself as its only and absolute leader. Calling themselves the Sea Wolves, the Bounty Hunters made chasing down pirates and driving them out of business their sworn objective and source of income. James welcomes people like him who wish to perform good deeds for lucrative rewards. He oversees the training of every new hunter who joins his faction, helping them devise strategies to defeat pirates and acquire their loot.
How Bounties Work
A player may set a bounty on a pirate either before attacking the pirate who intercepted them during a confrontation or after being defeated in a confrontation.
With the bounty set, bounty hunters may then take the job, intercept the pirate, and defeat them in another confrontation. If the bounty hunter defeats the pirate, the loot stolen from the player is then automatically and instantly returned to the rightful owner, and the bounty reward is released to the bounty hunter.
Setting the Bounty
Here are the rules for setting bounties:
- The option to set a bounty becomes available after a player loses a battle with a pirate. It can also be set on the pirate right before the player decides to attack them. Either way, there is a set time window within which the player is allowed to set the bounty.
- When the player presses “Set bounty,” a dialog box appears allowing the player to choose how much is the bounty reward and for how long the bounty duration lasts.
- The pirate may view the bounty on their head by checking the blockchain.
- The bounty duration is set in slots of 30 minutes, between which the bounty reward is split equally:
Example: If the bounty is 150 TOS and the duration is 90 mins, then the bounty hunter must complete the task of hunting down the pirate with the loot and defeating in 90 minutes to receive 50 TOS. The reward amount does not change: if completed in the first 30 minutes or in the last minute of the 90 minutes, they get the the same 50 TOS reward .
Taking the Bounty Hunting Job
Bounty hunters are the only players able to view the list of bounty jobs in the client. All bounty jobs listed will provide information on the bounty target, the bounty reward amount, and the time limit until the bounty expires.
After picking up the bounty job, the bounty hunter may proceed to hunt the pirate with the bounty.
Battling Pirates
Bounty hunters chasing down a pirate works the same as a pirate confrontation, only the bounty hunter is the one doing the interception. This always turns into a battle.
If the bounty hunter wins The bounty loot is instantly and automatically transferred to the player from whom it was stolen. The following will also occur:
- The bounty hunter receives karma increase
- The bounty is taken off the pirate’s head
- The bounty is taken off the list of bounties
- The bounty hunter may not collect any other loot in the pirate ship’s inventory
If the pirate wins The pirate escapes the encounter. However, the pirate may not in turn loot the bounty hunter.
