What is Voting in Cryptopia?

Governance and policies in Cryptopia are determined through player votes. However, as there may be an imbalance between investors and other players, Cryptopia utilizes a complex voting system where various factors influence the weight of a player’s vote. While the amount of $TOS you hold plays a role, each faction also operates under its own unique governance rules.

Industrial Faction

Money talks, and it’s especially true among the wealthy Inheritors. A faction composed entirely of industrialists and entrepreneurs, their doctrine is to accumulate as much wealth as possible, as fast as possible, by whatever means you are comfortable with.

As a member of the Industrialist faction, your wealth factors into your influence: the more $TOS you have in your multisig wallet, the more weight your vote carries in terms of governance and determining policies. Always remember: with the Industrial faction, wealth is the only true power.

Tech Faction

Above all else, the Technocrats believe in talent and ingenuity. As the resident Tech faction, they believe all governance should be a meritocracy: only the most skilled or experienced are fit to lead, and only the policies that share their vision of a futuristic Cryptopia are fit to be utilized. Above all, the Tech faction prizes mental fitness and experience when it comes to its members.

As befitting the Technocrat’s worldview that the intellectual elite should determine society, your player level and your intelligence score factor into your voting strength.

Traditional Faction

Of all the factions, the Unifiers are the ones who champion the will of the majority. Rather than kowtowing to an elite class, the Traditional faction believes in the “wisdom of the many”, championing democratic ideals and social welfare. Whatever benefits the most people is the best choice there is.

As with other factions, the Unifiers’ ideals factor into the weight of their members’ votes. Upon reaching level 5, players will be given nearly equal voting power—every vote by default counts as 1 to begin with. However, your Charisma score also serves as a multiplier, introducing nuance into a fundamentally fair system.

Eco Faction

“The Earth above all” is the tenet of every single member of the Earth’s Disciples. As the resident Eco faction, they believe that Cryptopia should avoid the mistakes of the old world—specifically, society’s reliance on pollutive fossil fuels and plastics. They will take any means necessary to prevent Cryptopia from becoming another environmental failure.

Among the Earth’s Disciples, your influence is determined by the actions you take to better the environment. Equipping CO2-capturing items, operating eco-friendly buildings, or sabotaging rival factions' pollutive structures serve to increase your voting power.

Pirates Faction

Pirates walk a different path. They will hunt down, pillage, and steal loot from any ship, and the bolder the theft, the better. To be a member of the Pirate faction is to live on the edges of society. But as any Pirate will tell you, even criminals in Cryptopia have the right to vote.

Among the Pirates, your influence is determined by your courage and ability to take risks. The riskier your looting is, the more weight your votes have in elections. Of course, this means a higher bounty on your head, but that is the price for living fast and free on the high seas.
